Terms of Service

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. By using them, you represent that you meet this requirement. Users between 13 and 18 should have a parent or guardian review these Terms.

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us immediately at support@grocerelle.com if you suspect unauthorized access. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

Free for 30 days. Grocerelle is free for 30 days, counted from the day you first use it. No payment information is required to start. After the free period, continued access requires an auto-renewing subscription of $3.99 per month (the “Grocerelle Monthly” subscription). If you subscribe before your free period ends, billing begins when you subscribe and any remaining free days end.

Subscribing in the iOS app. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews each month at the same price unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings. Billing, renewals, and refunds for purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms.

Subscribing on the web. Web subscriptions are sold through a checkout provided by our subscription partner, RevenueCat, with payments processed by Stripe. Your payment method is charged when you subscribe and automatically each month after that until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from “Manage subscription” in the app’s Settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refund requests for web purchases can be sent to support@grocerelle.com.

A subscription bought on one platform unlocks Grocerelle on the other when you sign in with the same account, but it must be managed or canceled on the platform where it was bought. Deleting your Grocerelle account does not cancel a subscription.

We may change subscription pricing or which features are included in the free period or paid plan in the future. We will give you reasonable advance notice of any price change, and it will not apply until your next billing period.

You own your grocery lists, recipes, meal plans, and any other content you create in Grocerelle. We claim no intellectual property rights over it.

By using the Services, you grant Grocerelle a limited license to store, display, and process your content solely to provide the Services to you. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.

If you share a cart with another person, anyone with the link can see and edit the shared cart until the link expires. If you share a recipe, anyone with the link can view it and save a copy to their own account. You are responsible for what you choose to share and with whom.

When you import a recipe from a third-party website or photo, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use it. Imported recipes are stored for your personal use. Grocerelle does not publish them or list them anywhere on its website or app. If you share a single recipe, it can be viewed only by people who have its link. Shared recipe pages are not listed on Grocerelle, tell search engines not to index them, and link back to the original source. Please share recipes with people you know rather than posting links publicly.

We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law, though we have no obligation to monitor content proactively.

You agree not to use the Services to:

• Post or transmit content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, or harassing.
• Infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of any third party.
• Impersonate any person or entity.
• Send spam or unsolicited communications through the Services.
• Upload malware, viruses, or any code that could damage the Services or other users.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Services or other users’ accounts.
• Scrape or harvest data from the Services without our written permission.

Grocerelle can send the contents of your cart to Instacart to generate a personalized shopping link, which opens in your browser or the Instacart app so you can complete your purchase there. Grocerelle is not a party to any purchase you make on Instacart, and your use of Instacart is governed by Instacart’s own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Grocerelle is not responsible for Instacart’s actions, content, or services.

Grocerelle participates in Instacart’s affiliate program and may earn a commission on purchases completed through that link, at no additional cost to you.

The Services may also contain links to other third-party websites or services. We do not endorse or control these and are not responsible for their content or practices.

The Grocerelle name, logo, app design, and all other materials we provide (excluding your content) belong to ClearLight Hudson LLC (d/b/a Grocerelle). You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our materials without prior written permission. You are granted a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the Services for your own non-commercial use.

Grocerelle uses AI to power several features:

• Extracting ingredients and cooking steps from imported recipe links, social posts, and photos.
• Normalizing ingredient names, categories, and brand suggestions.
• Suggesting how much of an ingredient to buy based on your meal plan.
• Detecting duplicate or overlapping ingredients across your cart and suggesting smart merges.

These features send selected pieces of your content to our AI provider, Anthropic, for processing on our behalf. Anthropic does not train models on data sent through their API by default. We may use de-identified or aggregated content to refine our own ingredient recognition and suggestion logic. We do not use your content to train models for third parties, and we do not use it to profile you individually. You remain in full control of your list and can accept, reject, or ignore any AI suggestion.

For recipes imported from Instagram or TikTok, we may also use third-party services (including Apify and OpenAI) to retrieve and transcribe the post’s content before it’s processed as described above. AI output can be wrong or incomplete — check quantities and ingredients before you shop or cook, especially for allergies.

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, Grocerelle disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free. Recipe information is for personal convenience only; always verify ingredient lists and follow safe food handling practices.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Grocerelle and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services. In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the amount you paid to Grocerelle in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred dollars ($100), whichever is greater.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Grocerelle and its affiliates, officers, and employees from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Services, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

If you believe content on Grocerelle infringes your copyright, please send a notice to support@grocerelle.com that includes:

• Your name and contact information.
• A description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed.
• A description of where the infringing content appears in the Services.
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized.
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
• Your physical or electronic signature.

We will investigate and, where appropriate, remove the infringing content. Repeat infringers may have their accounts terminated.

We may update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms and change the date above. Continued use of the Services after a change constitutes acceptance.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time for any reason, including violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time from Settings in the app (“Delete account”) or by contacting us. Sections 4, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14, and 15 survive termination.

Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the state and federal courts located in Albany County, New York.

Entire agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Grocerelle regarding the Services.

Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to do so in the future.

Assignment. We may assign our rights under these Terms in connection with a merger or acquisition. You may not assign your rights without our consent.

If you downloaded Grocerelle from the Apple App Store, these Terms are between you and ClearLight Hudson LLC only, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, or consumer-protection claims, and is not responsible for investigating or defending any claim that the app infringes a third party’s intellectual property rights. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
