Privacy Policy

• Account information. Your email address when you create an account. We do not ask for your name.
• Profile information you provide. Your zip code (used for delivery proximity when you send a list to Instacart) and household size (used to scale recipe portions and to suggest how much of an ingredient to buy for the week). You can change or clear either at any time from your account settings.
• Content you create in the app. Grocery cart contents, your staples list, saved recipes, meal plans, and which items you have shopped for previously (used to power your "Suggestions for you" chips).
• Recipe imports. If you import a recipe from a URL, we fetch that page to extract the ingredients. If you import a recipe from a photo, the image is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to extract ingredients via their Claude API. We do not retain photos after processing. Anthropic does not train models on data sent through their API by default.
• Technical information. Your IP address, device type, browser, and how you interact with the app — collected through standard server logs and analytics so we can keep things running and understand usage patterns.
• Cookies and similar storage. We use cookies and browser local storage to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work without them.
• Payment information. We do not collect your payment card information. Grocerelle is offered with a 30-day free trial, after which continued access is $3.99 per month, billed through the Apple App Store. Your payment details are handled entirely by Apple under their own privacy policy.

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate the Services and sync your data across devices and sessions.
• Power AI features. We send selected pieces of your content to our AI provider (Anthropic) for: extracting ingredients from imported recipes (text and photos), normalizing ingredient names and categories, suggesting how much of an ingredient to buy based on your meal plan, and detecting duplicate or overlapping items in your cart. Anthropic processes this content on our behalf and, per their API terms, does not train models on it.
• Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, password resets, magic-link sign-in, and similar operational messages).
• Send you product updates or marketing emails if you have opted in. You can opt out at any time by clicking Unsubscribe in any such email or emailing support@grocerelle.com.
• Respond to your support requests.
• Understand how the product is being used in aggregate so we can improve it.

We may use de-identified or aggregated content to refine our own ingredient recognition and suggestion logic. We do not use your content to train models for third parties, and we do not use it to profile you individually.

We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers we use:

• Supabase (United States) — hosts our database, authentication, and real-time sync. supabase.com/privacy
• Anthropic (United States) — processes AI requests (recipe extraction, ingredient normalization, quantity suggestions, duplicate detection). anthropic.com/legal/privacy
• Resend (United States) — delivers transactional email on our behalf. resend.com/legal/privacy-policy
• Netlify (United States) — hosts the web app. netlify.com/privacy
• Apple — distributes the iOS app and would handle any future in-app purchases. apple.com/legal/privacy

These vendors may access your data solely to perform services on our behalf and are required to keep it confidential.

Instacart. When you tap "Send to Instacart," we open Instacart in a browsing context — an in-app browser window on iOS, or a new browser tab on desktop — with your cart contents handed off so you can search for each item. You interact directly with Instacart's website from that point, signing in with your own Instacart account if you have one. Grocerelle does not transmit your personal information to Instacart on its own; your use of Instacart within that browsing context is governed by Instacart's own Privacy Policy. instacart.com/privacy

Grocerelle Shop Helper (Chrome extension). Our optional browser extension lets desktop users walk through their Grocerelle shopping list on Instacart one item at a time. It is installed and uninstalled from the Chrome Web Store like any other extension, and is independent of your Grocerelle account.

• Where it runs. Only on instacart.com. It does not run on grocerelle.com, on Google searches, or on any other site you visit.
• What information it handles. Only the items you have already added to your Grocerelle cart, plus the zip code you provided to Grocerelle. The website hands these over to the extension when you click "Shop on Instacart."
• Where it stores that information. Locally in your browser (chrome.storage), so it can remember which item you are on if Instacart navigates or you refresh the page. It is cleared when you finish shopping or close the session.
• What it does NOT do. It does not send your cart, your Instacart account, your search history, your browsing activity, or any other information back to Grocerelle, to Instacart on its own, or to any third party. It also does not read or modify pages outside instacart.com. Your Instacart sign-in (if any) is between you and Instacart — the extension never sees your Instacart password.

Real-time cart sharing. If you generate a share link, anyone with that link can see and edit the cart contents you have shared in real time, and you will see their edits. They do not see your account email, your full list of saved recipes, or any cart other than the one shared. You can revoke a share link at any time from within the app.

Legal requirements. We may disclose your information if we genuinely believe we are required to by law, or to protect the safety and rights of Grocerelle and our users.

Business transfers. If Grocerelle is acquired or merges with another company, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

• Account information. You can update your email and other account details from your account settings.
• Your content. You own your lists, recipes, and meal plans. You can delete any of it at any time from within the app.
• Account deletion. To delete your account, email us at support@grocerelle.com from the address on your account. We will promptly remove your email and all content associated with your account. Some de-identified or aggregated usage data may be retained. We will also retain records required by law for the legally required period.
• Marketing emails. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any such email or by emailing support@grocerelle.com.

Grocerelle is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at support@grocerelle.com and we will delete it promptly.

We use SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit and take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect your information. Your data is stored in the United States by our service providers. No system is completely secure. Please use a strong password and notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the revised policy at grocerelle.com/privacy and update the date above. Your continued use of the Services after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
